Service-Area Websites

If your customers find you by searching for a service plus a place, your website has one job: be the best answer for that search, then make booking obvious. Most local business websites fail at the first part and hide the second.

I have built this kind of site around 250 times, most heavily for home inspection and trades companies in the USA. The pattern is consistent enough that I no longer guess at it.

What this actually is

A WordPress site structured around your service area rather than around your company history. That means a real page for each town or suburb that matters to you, each with genuine local content instead of one paragraph with the place name swapped, and a separate page for each service so it can rank for its own searches.

The distinction matters because search engines have been able to spot templated location pages for years. Twenty near-identical pages do not help you, and can actively hold back the pages that were working. Fewer pages written properly beats more pages generated quickly, every time.

What you get

  • A custom WordPress build, not a licensed template with your logo dropped in.
  • A page for every service area you actually want to win, written with real local detail.
  • A page for every service line, so radon, sewer scope, pool or structural work can each rank alone.
  • A booking path that stays visible: tappable phone number and a short form, on every screen size.
  • LocalBusiness and Service schema so search engines can read your area, services and reviews properly.
  • Google Search Console and GA4 connected and verified before launch, not weeks after.
  • Editable content fields labelled for your business, so you can update prices and areas yourself.
  • Your domain, your hosting, your code. Nothing locked to me or to a platform.

How it works

Discovery. We start with your service area, your competitors and the enquiries you want more of. I look at who currently ranks above you for your money keywords and what their sites do that yours cannot. That research decides the page structure, so we are not designing on taste alone.

Design. Layouts built around the booking action, refined with you in Figma before any code is written. If most of your work comes from agent or trade referrals, the home page is built to serve that. If you are buying ads and taking direct calls, it is built for speed to phone instead.

Build and launch. Hand built in WordPress, tested on real mobile devices, tuned for Core Web Vitals, then migrated with 301 redirects from every existing URL so the rankings you already have come with you. Launch includes a walkthrough so your team can edit the site without calling me.

Typical timeline is three to six weeks. Content is usually the slow part rather than the build, so I tell you up front exactly what I need from you and when.

Who this is for, and who it is not

This fits you if you compete in search, serve more than one town, and lose work to competitors who show up above you. It fits especially well if you are currently on a website bundled with your industry software, because those sites cap exactly the page structure local search rewards.

It is not for you if you are in your first year and still working out your pricing and service area, or if essentially all your work arrives through referral relationships you already hold. In those cases a cheaper site is the correct decision and I will tell you so.

What it should return

Work this out with your own numbers rather than trusting mine, because the arithmetic is simple and it either clears or it does not.

Take your average job value. For a home inspector in most US markets that sits somewhere between $350 and $600. Now consider how many people search for your service in your area each month, which in a mid-sized metro is typically several hundred to a few thousand. If you are on page two, your share of that is close to zero.

Moving into the top three for even one suburb, at a few extra jobs a month, is often $1,000 to $1,800 in monthly revenue that recurs for as long as the page ranks. That is the real comparison: not the cost of a website against nothing, but against the work you are not being called about.

The second cost is quieter. Every month on a rented or capped platform is a month of authority accumulating on a URL you do not own. Two years of that gap does not close in a single rebuild, which is why waiting is more expensive than it sounds.

Common questions

Will I lose my rankings when the site changes?

Not if the migration is done properly. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect to its new equivalent, which carries the accumulated authority across. Expect a fortnight of movement while Google recrawls, then a return to where you were on a foundation that can grow.

Do I have to leave my current scheduling software?

No, and usually you should not. Spectora, ISN, Jobber, Housecall Pro and the rest all embed into WordPress. Keep the software for scheduling, agreements and invoicing. Only the website changes.

How many service area pages do I need?

Only as many as you can support with real content and genuinely want work from. Five well written pages outperform thirty thin ones. We decide the list together in discovery.

The useful first step costs nothing: search your main service in your main city in an incognito window and look at who sits above you. Tell me what you find and I will give you a straight read on whether a rebuild is worth it yet.
